End of the month update: What I have in store for July

Summer for me, thus far, has been fairly productive in the writing front – I’ve finally completed my first draft, I’ve been updating the blog fairly frequently, and at least trying a little bit to get involved with the community of writers on twitter. Now that I’ve finished up that first draft and Camp NaNoWriMo is coming to a close, though, I’m not too sure if I’ll be keeping up with productivity. While my novel is going to be a bit on the back-burner aside from a little bit of outlining every day or so during July, I have other projects that I do want to keep up with, some work, drawing and painting, and I’d like to at least keep myself writing -something- regularly (aside from this blog, of course).

In terms of keeping up with writing, I’ll probably stick mainly to writing things for the blog and doing some daily writing on oneword so I can focus primarily on outlining the novel when it comes to writing. I’m planning to try to update the blog weekly on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays and do a little writing at oneword on Mondays through Fridays, which may or may not be posted here, considering they’re practically just free writing from what comes to mind first for a minute for me (although maybe a weekly post of my oneword writings on Saturday or Sunday would be nice, or maybe just one at the end of the month of the best things I came up with? We’ll see, I guess). I’m thinking I’ll try to mainly stick to posts about writing, from my tips and opinions to posts on resources I use for writing and why/how. I also have some reading updates in mind, if I’m able to keep up with my reading like I really want to.

That’s another thing I’m going to try to keep up on this Summer – I love reading and I’m actually a fairly fast reader when I work at reading frequently, but I’ve been getting too caught up in other things to keep reading on a regular basis. I think to keep up with this I’ll try to do a post at the beginning and end of the month reporting how I’ve been doing with my reading and what I’ve been reading in general. Since I’m reading multiple books at once, I’ll try to get about 50 pages in each of the fiction ones read a week, minimum, until I finish one of them. I’ll probably go at a more leisurely pace with the non-fiction, since most of the non-fiction I read are books intended to help with the process of making comics, so I’ll be reading it along with working on things of that vein.

In terms of things of that vein, I’m also going to be trying to work on a collaborative comic my lovie and I have been working on throughout this month regularly on at the very least weekdays. I’m hoping to at least get a rough sketch for a frame (it’s going to be a single-frame-a-page web comic rather than a multiple-panels-per-page one – sort of an experiment on our part) done per day during the week. I’m hoping to finish up at least the first chapter before we launch it so I won’t have to rush to finish pages to update on a regular schedule – however, if I do seem to slack from the blog every now and then throughout July, it may be because I’m working on trying to get significant work on this done, since it’ll probably be my biggest focus of the month.

While working on the comic counts as working on art, I also want to keep up with doodling and digital painting, so I’m going to be trying to work on those more during the weekends and free time, which is why a lot of what I’ve said above seems to be focused on during weekdays. Weekends will be reserved to relax and work on various digital paintings and concept sketches for them. Doodling is something I’ll probably do during both the weekdays and weekends to just be silly and avoid getting burnt out.

I’m going to try to update my other blogs, which are all more focused on my art and inspiration for that rather than writing, at least once every week or two, as well, so when I get around to regularly updating those, I’ll probably put up a page on here that can redirect people to those if anyone’s interested. Over all, I have a lot in store for July to keep me productive and busy, which is something  I need to keep up with to keep my mood from taking a turn for the worse too often and is essential to my recovery. I’m not planning on overloading myself or taking it all too seriously – breaks will be there when necessary, and I’ll be keeping in touch with ways to relax, be it talking to my buddies or watching things.

What do you have in store for July?

End of the year update 2011

First and foremost, I’d like to wish anyone reading this a happy winter, and if you’re celebrating any sort of holiday, I hope you’re enjoying it thoroughly! I really haven’t been able to update this blog as much as I’d of liked to, especially seeing as I wanted to get a special update on character design posted on the 25th as a little gift for anyone who happens to enjoy it. As shown obviously, that didn’t happen, but I’m still planning on working on it and all of it’s little extra goodies ASAP. I’ve also been neglecting my twitter account quite a bit, and writing/drawing/etc as a whole… but I’m definitely going to be trying hard to get that on track next year. This is becoming a bit repetitive with the whole ‘I haven’t posted much but I’m trying to’ thing, so I’m going to move on.

My book shelf is working significantly on getting bigger. I’ve got a few new books as of now, those being some that I’ve really been meaning to read for a while now. As of this moment, I am working on reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and I’m contemplating taking some notes on what I like/dislike and think about the book itself and putting together a little book review of it. I should be finishing it up soon, but it seems like it’s the kind of book I’ll have to re-read after a bit of a break from it.

I’ve finally got a new sewing machine, although I’m not sure when I’m going to start on working with it, although I do have an idea of what my first sewing project will be. My amazing boyfriend’s also bought me a tablet, which I’m far too excited for since my old tablet was worn out into a piece of unworkable shit (draw straight line on tablet -> comes out looking completely different, worn from working with it, losing it, etc, family member broke the pen, lost pen, lost tablet months later). I can’t come up with the exact words to thank him for it with, honestly.

I’m trying to put everything into a schedule for the most part, for now, since I’ve got to get everything done faster. I’m not one for routine, but with the way I’m living now, to assure myself that I’ll finish up and move on to more exciting things, I kind of have to. Work is something that I really need to get done, and this should help me do that.

A brand new year is coming up, and I’ve figured it’s time to get my shit together and work on a lot of stuff. This year’s been pretty rough on my family and I, and it’s time to start working harder on a lot of things. In other words, it’s time for the typical new year’s resolution list, sincerest apologies on that. Most of these are some goals I’ve had for a while, but never managed to do because I didn’t pay as much attention to them as I should, and I just want to get them all set straight by the end of next year.

  1. Find better ways to show appreciation to those I love, as I’ve not been doing that as much as I’d like to. They deserve to feel appreciated and loved.
  2. Work on handling some problems I’ve had for a while. Emotional baggage isn’t going to work out for me.
  3. Spend more time helping others, helping out with charities, doing encouragement and depression/self-harm/etc recovery and awareness projects, and anything else I can manage.
  4. Get more work done in terms of the things I’ve been neglecting these past few years.
  5. In visual arts, work more on scenery and depiction of motion.
  6. Create at least one complete piece, background and all, each month, along with several other practices and the like, visual art wise, in both traditional and digital media.
  7. Work more on video editing and improving work in 3D software.
  8. Work on becoming physically healthier, specifically getting back into hiking and being a bit more active, as I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.
  9. Read more of everything I enjoy – novels, blogs, short stories, poems, and the like.
  10. Write more posts for this blog!

If I don’t post by the end of the year, I hope everyone has a great new year’s and a good start to 2012. Here’s hoping for a better year, no matter how bad/good this one may have been!

Of wonky sleep schedules, future plans for the blog, and an art-rut

So, apparently, all of my posts on here say they’ve been posted a day after the day I really post them. That’s wonky. WordPress, y u do dis? I probably seem wacky referencing to what day it could be to anyone who sees the actual date it claims to be published on.

So, on to actual post content that no one really gives a fuck about but I’m going to do anyway, in between NaNoWriMo, cuddling a puppy, drinking coffee with brownies and giggling around with the loviebear, my sleep schedule has somehow become wonky again. According to, again referring to with a silly name, the loviebear, I’ve only been sleeping about three hours before waking up again. Of course, if I’m bored enough, I’ll pass out again within an hour or two, but if I’ve got something to do, I can stay up for a while, then repeat. It’s kind of silly but also convenient – I’ve been sleeping for three or so hours in the mornings lately, then passing out a while later and sleeping until about three PM and getting to work then. It’s kind of fun, but I just messed that up by doing that cycle in the middle of the night instead. Let’s see how that turns out.

I’ve been contemplating doing some posts about how I go about getting my short stories and novels set up, how I go through the process of everything, and how things get into place, etc with my own tips, tricks and opinions on and about writing. It just sounds like it’d be overall fun to do and maybe help at least one other person out if anyone can find this blog. I’m also thinking about doing little segments on my views on life and concepts, just for shits and giggles, to be able to go around and ramble about a concept or word for a while and categorize that into it’s own little thing.

My lovie and I are planning on watching The Exorcist together whenever we get the opportunity, and I’m kind of scared shitless. I saw a screamer that apparently had something from that movie in it years back and it had me terrified of rocking chairs for at least three years. I’m hoping to watch Rosemary’s Baby soon, too, and finally read the horror novels that we have here now that used to belong to my Granny. I swear, I find a new Stephen King novel of her’s somewhere in the house every month or two.

Still trying to shake off the laziness and get down to business on some artwork in between my daily life, (which a lot of it probably seems like it’s a waste of time and space to anyone reading this blog, but I’m leaving a lot of what I do/plan out, I swear) but I’m just not inspired to make anything worth while right now. Maybe once I finish my novel and put it down for a bit I’ll be able to muster the inspiration to draw, digi-paint, or photo-manipulate some things in the free time left in my life while I give the novel a break before I go into my first personal edit.

I’ve got a lot of ideas for things to at least doodle in my head, but I just can’t get them out. I can’t even get the inspiration to grab my sketchbook and a pencil. I really, really want to work on some character designs, especially since a lot of them are changing slightly as I revamp some of my novel and it’s characters for the last time to get to business on actually doing a draft that will become the one to be published. I really want to get down some designs for some of the female character’s outfits and design some of the characters who I was never able to really get a good design out for now.

But, nonetheless, be expecting some character sketches in my NaNo-related posts since I’m going to be trying to get out some information on the characters in some of them later this month! I’m kind of excited, since actually having a place that’s just for me, myself, and I to post things will probably motivate me to put them up more.

I’m going to try to get back in the groove of working, so I’m going to drop off the blog for a while, get a drink and a snack, and get to work on some things that I really need to get done. Hopefully I’ll be making a more useful post about writing or giving NaNoWriMo tips sometime soon. Until then, have a random bit of wonky post pulled out of my ass.

Halloween and NaNo blog preview

So, I’m going to be spending tomorrow and Monday at an old friend’s house for Halloween. I decided to update the blog now, because, well, why the hell not? I have no idea what we’re doing tomorrow other than derping around, but I’m going to be downloading as many horror movies onto my laptop as I can and bring my Marble Hornets DVD if I can find it (I’m still adamant that my parents hid it. Slender Man scares them both.) because she’s easy to scare and I love the feeling of fear. I still haven’t told her that Slender Man isn’t real. :P

On Monday, we’re going to be dressing up to hand out candy and just derp around like most friends do. I don’t know what her outfit is, but I’ve got a mask, a cloak, and a top hat all nice and ready for me. I love my cloak and top hat to damn bits, they’re both nice and snazzy.

I’ve been prepping for NaNoWriMo, which I’ll probably make a post for on Tuesday when I get home. Since I already have an outline and a good idea of the characters (I’ve been working on characterizing them and fixing up my plot for almost two years) I don’t have much to worry about, so I’ve been going to Starbucks every day or two to have a mocha, sit down with my laptop, relax, clear my mind, get some ideas out and practice pumping up my writing speed. When I was in school, I could write six or so pages a day, but I’ve not been as inspired since then so I haven’t been writing that much, so I’ve been trying to get into the groove again.

I’ve not been drawing as much lately, but I’m thinking I’ll be doing a lot more original artwork, or at least sketches, since I’m finally about to get off of my ass and write the first novel of my series, and when I write, I get inspired to at least sketch a bit. Hopefully I’ll be able to update the blog with some artwork soon. It’s not that great, but I know I’m improving day after day and I’m a lot better than I used to be, so I hope it’s enough to satisfy whoever happens upon it.

I think that’s all for now, with a significantly less word count than my last post filed under personal had, and hopefully the next time I update it’ll either be NaNo-related and maybe have some artwork included.
